***THESE DATES ARE FOR FIRST-TIME-IN-COLLEGE STUDENTS IN THE COMMERCE AND TRANSPORTATION or PUBLIC SAFETY PATHWAYS WHO WILL BEGIN THEIR ENROLLMENT DURING THE FALL 2022 SEMESTER***

Dates for students beginning in Spring 2023 semester will be posted in late October.

These sessions take place virtually in ZOOM. A link will be sent to you in your pre-advising registration confirmation email.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • You should only register for ONE date and time for your Pre-Advising session.
  • It is your obligation to attend on the date you register for. If you are unable to attend, please click the cancellation link the confirmation email you receive.
  • You must complete orientation PRIOR to attending Pre-Advising.
  • Parents, friends, children, etc. are NOT permitted to attend Pre-Advising sessions with students. Only you, the student, will be permitted to attend.
  • Polk State policy DOES NOT allow students to add courses beyond their first meeting. Please choose your Pre-Advising session with this in mind. Otherwise, you may need to delay your enrollment until a later session during the semester.

WHAT IS PRE-ADVISING?

Pre-advising is an extended orientation to better prepare you for the journey ahead as a student at Polk State College. It also gives you an opportunity to meet a Student Success Advisor.

WHO NEEDS PRE-ADVISING?

All new first-time-in-college (FTIC) students are REQUIRED to attend one Pre-Advising session AFTER orientation in order to register for classes. You are a first-time-in-college student is this is your first semester taking college classes AFTER your high school graduation (whether that was a few months ago or several years ago).

WHO DOES NOT NEED PRE-ADVISING?

Current or new dual-enrolled, early admission, collegiate high school, re-enrolling, or bachelor’s degree-seeking students. Note: Students who WERE previously dual-enrolled, early admission, or collegiate high school students, GRADUATE from high school, and CONTINUE at Polk State College are considered FTICs. Before your first semester AFTER graduation from high school, you must complete a Pre-Advising session.
